What
is a mangosteen?
Mangosteen is a small purple fruit with a hard and bitter rind,
a green stem (calex), and white fleshy centre that is delightfully
sweet. While most people would eat only the sweet centre of
the mangosteen, the majority of the antioxidant properties are
found in the bitter rind. The mangosteen tree takes up to 12
years to bear fruit and can only be found in the tropical climate
zones. Most people have never heard of this “Queen of
Fruits” but it has been used for thousands of years for
medicinal purposes in Asia. It contains more of a particular
type of antioxidant called Xanthones then any other fruit found
anywhere.
